Grenada

Grenada

We love Grenada! The Island is a great vacation spot for adventure seekers, divers, or beach lovers looking for a little R&R (like us!). Gorgeous beaches, lush rainforests, friendly islanders and dynamic culture offer the ultimate Caribbean experience. Basically Grenada is the perfect destination for just about everyone.

History and Culture of the Island

Grenada is a wonderful blend of Amerindian custom fused with French, English, Spanish, African and East Indian influences.  The language is officially English, but Creole is common. The rich mix of cultures is evident in Grenada’s strong traditions of dance and drumming featured in the annual carnival, held in August on Grenada and February on Carriacou.

Visit the Grenada National Museum, which displays the island’s history and art.  Fort George is an important 18th-century fortress held by both the French and English.  The dramatic views of the coast from the fortress alone are worth a visit.  Don’t miss the opportunity to see performances of traditional steel pan music and dancing at the Grenada Cultural Foundation.  Visitors can participate in traditional dances like the Grenada-born Bele dance.

The history and culture of Grenada are fascinating and definitely worth exploring!

Cuisine of Grenada

A delicious fusion of African, European, and Caribbean flavors are found in Grenadian cuisine. We love roti (a flatbread stuffed with curried chicken, goat, and veggies). Other must-try dishes include a stew made with breadfruit, salted meat, and spices called “oil down” or leafy, green Callaloo soup.

Grenada is often referred to as the “Spice Island” and is a top producer for spices like Nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, allspice, bay leaves, and turmeric worldwide. We buy spices every time we come to Grenada!

Enjoy the Beaches

There are several stunning beaches in Grenada. Our favorite beach is Grand Anse Beach, which is well-known for its white sand and turquoise waves. More tranquil beaches include La Sagesse and Levera Beach.

Hike through the Rainforest

The rainforest in Grenada is a natural treasure. We love to explore the lush vegetation, waterfalls, and wildlife of Grand Etang National Park on a guided hike. Moreover, the forest canopy can also be explored via ziplining or rappelling.

Climate

Get ready to enjoy the Sunshine! Grenada is a tropical paradise with a breezy trade winds and an average temperature of 27°C / 80°F year-round. Rainy season is generally from July to November, with mostly humid sunny days and short, scattered showers.

In a word Grenada is fascinating. It is a stunning place worth multiple visits and really does offer the perfect mix of experiences really any type of vacation from cultural trips, to luxury adults-only all-inclusive resorts for romantic getaways, honeymoons and destination weddings. Grenada is in our top 5 favorite Caribbean destinations and we highly recommend visiting!
